I am interested in purchasing a Catadioptric Telescope for use on an Astroview Mount. Portability is a consideration but I mainly want it to compliment my 80mm apo to get more detailed views of planets and see more and fainter DSOs. Astrophotography is not a consideration and modification of the mount to attach it would be no problem. So, what is the largest and best unit that I can mount on the Astroview for visual use. All advice is welcome.

I have an AstroView/EQ-3 mount. I have a set of Vixen SP legs under it, the aluminum legs are not stiff enough to give a solid view. I use it with a 130mm F/5 Newtonian. It would definitely be undersized for an 8 inch SCT and it is plenty good for my C-5 OTA. I am not familiar with the C-6 but I would guess it would be OK...

Got to say though, for DSOs and planetary detail, the old 8 inch DOB is small-car portable and will show more than a smaller cat by a ways.

I do hope you meant to type "catadioptric", since "cardiotropic" would mean that the scoope has an adverse effect on your heart!
