Vixen LVW 42mm

Anybody have a Vixen LVW42mm? I spent the afternoon calculating what low power ep would give me the widest possible field in my f/10 SCT. The numbers point to this ep, with the Pentax 40mm XW being second. With the current Vixen sale, this looks like a good time to get this ep. However, there's not much written on it.

Your opinions please. Joe

Hi Joe,

My 42mm LVW, combined with my C8, is one of my favorite low(ish) power combos. In my C8, I even prefer the LVW to my 40mm Pentax XL, a very fine eyepiece itself.

I also have one of those GSO 42mm Super-Views, and the LVW is magnitudes better than it, even in the f10 C8.

I paid about the same used, as they are selling for on closeout now. If I had the money I'd buy a second one as "back up".

Take care and happy holidays,

Joe D.

Hi Joe,
I used one in my 8 inch SCT also and I liked it better than a UO 40 MK70. I never really looked at the full moon through it, though, but it was a great widefield DSO EP with excellent contrast and sharp to the edge. The only reason I sold it was that I moved to dobs and the exit pupil was now too large. That said, I have a friend who is a diehard star hopper and he uses it in his 18" f4.5 as a finder EP. I am a big fan of these EPs and still have a couple ( 8mm and 17mm) I use a lot.

I ended up selling the 42mm to help fund a 26T6 nagler which is now my widest field EP.
Cheers,

Thanks to all for being very helpful. Now I have to decide between this ep or the 40mm Paragon.
