Hoping to provoke some discussion, and hear about others experiences with the Planetary Series of eyepieces. Some time back I picked up a 9 mm Burgess TMB here on the Mart. Found that my observations confirmed what I had heard from others--nice sharp ep, comfortable with good eyerelief, reasonably good contrast--a nice performer at a nice price! It did have the noted field curvature and reflection issues others have noted, and since it was so close to my Pentax 10.5, I ended up selling it. It was branded "Burgess/TMB". Recently I picked up a 5 mm and 4 mm for a short focus ED refractor which were branded "TMB" only. Rather than the chrome barrel they have a black anodized barrel, not tapered, but with a recessed ring for the set screw in the diagonal. The specs list them as 10 and 12 mm eyerelief respectively, whereas the "Burgess" branded ones are listed as 16 mm relief across the line. Has anyone had experience comparing the "Burgess/TMB" line to the "TMB" line? I'm finding that I'm really liking the TMB brand, more than I remember liking the Burgess line. The reflection issue seems to be better controlled, and the field is quite sharp, almost to the edge. I haven't taken them apart to see if the retaining ring is the improved one, but the images sure are satisfying. Does anyone know the differences between the two lines, if there are any? Thanks for any thoughts you might have based on your own experiences!
