Tele Vue 2.5 Barlow vs. Klee 2.8

Hello all:

Opinions please. I "low balled" a bid on "that other place" for a "Tele Vue 2.5 Barlow" and ended up with it. I think it is the older version made back in the 1990s. I was hoping that it was a Powermate that was mislabeled and figured there was no harm is taking a chance for the price. I already have a Klee 2.8. I don't need both. Opinions as to what to keep?

Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,

I have the 2.8x Klee also and love it for high mag with short fl eyepieces on my APOs, but the Klee really vignettes eyepieces over 15mm Fl, I recall the TV2.5x was much better in that regard. If you have a variety of scopes you might find that you prefer different barlows in each depending on the eyepiece range you use with each.

I could be wrong here, but if it a 2.5x then it is a Powermate. I'm not aware of TV making a regular 2.5x barlow.

Both are excellent. I agree with other poster that
the Klee vignettes badly for long focal length eyepieces.
But Klee is also much smaller and sometimes that is
useful. Suggest to try both in your scopes and see
which you like.

I agree that the Klee is good, and so is the TV. Used them both and really liked them. I like short barlows though, when I can use them, so that gives the Klee the edge for me. Best of view I ever had of Saturn was through a Pentax 10.5 XL stacked on a Klee barlow.

Many thanks to all who responded. It's a 1980s original Tele Vue 2.5 barlow and looks good. Based on feedback, I will keep both.
Clear skies, Ed
