Permanently marking eyepieces

Does anyone have suggestions for permanently marking eyepieces with some sort of personal identification? (Note: I'm not concerned about selling my eyepieces in the future.) I'm not comfortable with using an electric engraver because of the vibration, and individual letters that can be stamped into metal or plastic using a hammer are out of the question.

One option I ran across is a "Trace Mark" by Microstamp Corporation. Has anyone used this?

Any other thoughts?

Hi Ron,

Take a look at . This is an electric arc etching pen that has very little vibration - certainly not the intense action of the diamond point engraving pens. I have one that I picked up at a hamfest a while back that you are welcome to use, when I get a new point for it.

An alternative is a jeweler. They engrave with hand tools and some have laser engravers; I suspect the price is not too bad for simple jobs.

Ron:

A teflon stencil and a bit of Hydrofluoric Acid and you can etch your name on the eye lens. I think this should probably keep people from stealing your eyepieces, especially if you use big letters... smile

Be careful using hydrofluoric acid because it is quite toxic and can travel through your skin to your bones...

PS: I know this is a serious topic but I can't resist a bit of fun as I just finished my Dobstuff conversion of my 16 inch Starfinder last night.
