Inside of eyepiece barrel too wide

My wife gave me a Meade 15mm Series 4000 plossel eyepiece a few months ago. Last weekend, I tried to put in a filter and discovered that the inside diameter is too large for the filter to grip the threads and it just falls out. I've checked against other filters and eyepieces and the problem is definitely with this eyepiece. (The outer diameter is fine.)

Meade customer service said they would replace it but I don't want to send it out and risk a 4 week turn-around until mars season is winding down. I've thought about wrapping the filter in teflon tape but I would need to remove the tape if I wanted to use the filter in other eyepieces. I also worry about small pieces of the tape coming off and fouling the lens.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts / suggestions.

Thanks!

Try screwing the insert sleeve off of one of your less used eyepieces and screwing that sleeve onto the body of the 15mm. take the ill fitting (filter threads) sleeve off of the 15mm and put it on your less used eyepiece. First check that the filters fit in the sleeve you intend to use.
