How do you hold your EPs between use at night?

>>>Do you use an EP tray, or a table or just put them back into the case? How about a waist case, anyone use them, I have one but have not used it.

Floyd:

What I do is just use one eyepiece and setup several scopes. If I want to change magnification I just switch scopes so I never need to refocus. It saves time too because I only have one eyepiece to put away. 8O 8O grin grin

As is obvious from the other posts, how one stores eyepieces between use depends upon one's climate. San Diego is relatively dry and the mountains are very dry so dewing is not a big issue.

If I an using an EQ mount then most have a tray. With DOBs I either use a table or an eyepiece racks mounted on the base of a DOB. I prefer to observe seated, I can change eyepieces without getting up. I change eyepieces a lot.

I have quite a few eyepieces but pretty use the same 5 or 6 in a given scope. Most scopes I just use my main set of older TeleVues but with longer focal length scopes I like my old Orthos or maybe my set of PLossls/Ultimas. Sometimes with those long focal length scopes I just use a 7.3mm-22mm Zoom plus a 32mm Plossl and keep the one I am not using in my hand...

I keep my eyepieces in my NP 101 case. I use PVC couplings which fit the precut holes and keep the end cap held captive in the bottom with rings cut from PVC fittings.

I made this accessory box that hangs on the front of my Dob's rocker box. Gel cell battery for powering fans and dew control rides in the lower compartment, eyepieces in the upper. I keep the cover closed because when observing here in Michigan dew (and even frost!) is ever-present. Any time I want to switch eyepieces they're right there where I can reach them.

Floyd, what a person needs is a heated EP tray that can get the dew off of EP's after they fog up. I may have a machinist friend make some circular holders to attach to my tripod tray, and then wrap them with my Dew-Not heater straps. When an EP fogs up, just change it out.

I have the waist case and use it to hold bino pairs of EP's. When monoviewing, I use my pockets a lot as it keeps the EP's warm and free of dew.

Of course, if you binoview or use one EP constantly, best to put a heater strap on the EP, but I suspect those with trays want to change EP's a lot, and heater straps are a pain when changing EP's a lot and a cold EP taken fronm a cold case takes about 15 minutes to heat up and clear sometimes. TMB's heat very poorly from heater straps and are best kept in a warm place until needed.
