Help identify mystery eyepiece

Hi, all.

Can anybody help me identify the eyepiece whose image is attached? (If that doesn't work, I've also uploaded it to http://members.aol.com/plalbrecht/eyepiece3.jpg). The only markings on it read "1 1/8" fl" No manufacturer or country of origin. Inside are two cemented nonidentical doublets separated by about a 1/4" wide fiber spacer ring. The two barrel components are both black anodized aluminum. The upper section has a straight knurled area. There is no filter thread. This must date to the late 1960s to mid 1970s because I've had it since then. It may be Edmund, I used to buy a lot of stuff from them back then (or from their Chicago affiliage, American Science Center) but I don't have any recollection of actually buying this from them. I'm also posting this to the classifieds section, I don't know if that's kosher but maybe more people read that.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

Looks like a varient of the Edmund Sci. 28mm RKE to me.

The barrel looks exactly like an old Edmund Kellner that was given to me back in 1969. I believe mine actually said '1" Kellner' on it. It had two different-looking doublets as well. IIR the eye lens was smaller in diameter than the field lens. I gave it away decades ago so I'm doing this from memory, but I'm sure that the barrel design is the same. It sure looks like an old Edmund to me.

Hope this helps,
Doug

This looks identical to the eyepiece I bought from Edmund in 1967 (and still have so I can compare your photo to the eyepiece). In the catalog, it was advertised as a 1 1/8" Kellner, though as you say it appears to have 4 elements rather than 3.

Cheers,
John

I'd like to add to this eyepiece thread, hopefully not adding to the mystery. This looks just like an eyepiece I bought circa 1980 from Jerryco (now American Sci & Surplus). It was described as a 28mm Plossl based on a military design (see attached pic with catalog page). It may be hard to see in the pic but the eyepiece is stamped 1 1/8" FL around the rim. It works pretty well for a $25 eyepiece though there were some reflections from the anodized barrel so I added felt inside to take care of that.
