Hello,
I am new to this hobby and am having a wonderful time.
Im about to purchase a 12" dob (xt12i or lightbridge) and I would like to start purhasing a few EPs. The plan is to purchase a good quality Barlow, Ultima 2x or Meade telextender (any other thoughts?). My budget is about $100 each for 2 or 3 EPs. Ive read the mid-priced shootout thread but I want to know whats best for the fast dob. Should I be thinking TV or Ultrascopic Plossls or can I get the wider AFOV from something like the Orion Stratus?
I dont wear glasses and Ill be using the scope for both DSO and planetary viewing.
I like the Idea of the wide field but if you guys think they wont work well in this scope Ill stick to the plossls.
Any help steering me in the right direction would be great, theres so many choices....so little cash!!
thanks in advance,
-Mark

Hi Mark,
I have a XT10 f4.7 and wide field EPs work pretty good in it. I've collected my EPs one at a time and find when I buy a good one like a nagler or panoptic I rarely want to sell them.
But as you are just getting started I'd recommend the TV plossel's. When you want to upgrade
( and you will wink ) they will hold their resale better than others.
