Wondering what Palm-type pda and astro programs people can suggest. I buy a lot of used equip., so older models are fine as long as they work with current software. I may be linking it to a Mac.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

I tried a couple and settled on Planetarium. It runs just fine on both a HandSpring Visor Deluxe and a Palm M100. The Palm M100 is pretty basic with 2megs of memory but it runs just fine. I bought both of them at garage sales, the Visor for $20 and the M100 for $5.

It will also run on the new Zire but the Zire lacks backlighting, something that is quite a help.

I use Planetarium a great deal, not only while observing in place of a star chart, but also when planning a session, it is full featured, has a significant amount of info about the objects, has a good list of targets, does the jupiter moon thing, rise and set for times.... It is like a mini-version of skymap on a laptop that fits in your pocket. Sometimes I just take it out and use it to identify particular stars, no binos, no scope, just me, the Palm and sky.

It costs $24 and is shareware with a fairly long trial period after which it just asks if you want to register but then will operate perfectly well if you do not register it.

I registered mine, in my view it is a great bargin and well worth the money.

A link can be found on Rod Mollise's site, members.aol.com/rmollise under PDAs or some such thing.

"tis the winner in my book.

2Sky is terrific. It is the first Palm program that I have used that functions well as a star chart. It has the full NGC catalogue and is very easy to use at the telescope.
