You know ...I've been wanting to post this for a while now, and seeing someone's add for an eyepiece that's $15 less than retail...Guess what?!!!

I'm gonna pay the "extra" $15 and buy new !

...now I realize this is going to vary with supply and demand and the orgional cost of the item, but, keep pricing stuff @ < 5% of retail and you probly will find someone to buy it... but not me.

I agree with you, I don't see saving $15 on a $200 eyepiece, the garranty is worth more than that...

Tim, yes I agree with you. For that small amount of discount it is not worth going used. I, too, was going to buy a used telescope and the seller wanted close to retail price. Although I had to wait awhile, I decided to go new to take advantage of the company guarantee, etc.

I generally agree with most of the posts on this subject, but remember there is used equipment which actually is appreciating in value because it is no longer available and hard to find. Supply and demand only goes so far.....how bad do you want it,or need it plays a big part. Just my two cents!

I think it really depends on what it is your selling/buying. Some things hold their value well, and other things don't. Also supply and demand matters as well.
I am willing to pay close to retail on some things, because
A) No taxes,
B) No Shipping costs(you'll usually find shipping and insurance is included in the price).
Now if you think about it, this can add up.
C) Availability. Is it available right away, or not.
I live 15 min from ATWB, so it is easy to run over and get the things I want, however not everything is in stock. IE I wanted to get a 9mm wireless reticle. ATWB was 14-21 days out. I advertised on AM figuring if I had to wait that long, someone was bound to have one they wanted to part with, and I could get it sooner. Didn't work out there either, and I would have paid near new price for one, I searched the I'net ad finally found one at B&H Photo, for the same price as ATWB, and in the end it cost me the same with 3 day shipping as ATWB(including taxes).
D) I like to give people an opportunity to get rid of things they don't use.

However, I also will make them offers for the items at a price I feel is reasonable, and give them an opportunity to take my offer or leave it.

So it really depends on many things.
Sure I would love to find a Superwedge for under 200, but I don't usually expect it.
