To Flock or not to Flock......

Hello everyone, I have a question about flocking my SCT. I have a Celestron 9.25 and was told that flocking the tube would increase my contrast dramatically. I just wanted other opinions before I took my scope apart. What do you think...... to flock or not to flock that is the question???

Thanks much,
Jay

I did my 9.25" XLT CF and it made the sky around a bright object like the moon much blacker. I did the CF tube, the outside of the baffle tube and the inside of the secondary holder. I removed the rear mirror cell and the secondary mirror to do mine. Upon reassembly I also centered the secondary mirror holder in the corrector with shims. I blackened the bevels on the main mirror and secondary. I centered the secondary holder in the tube using dial calipers and I took pains to accurately align the optics to the factory reference marks. I now feel its optimized to give its best performance and it does. The extra work was worth it. If your taking it apart to flock it, you might want to go the extra mile. Paul

LOL! Jay, you've opend up a can of worms! wink

You'll get all sorts of mixed emotions about this, as I've seen in the miriad of threads about this, some people have seen some improvement, some people have seen big improvement, some people have seen NO improvement, and some people really messed up their scopes...

IMHO, flocking the inside of an SCT is a very delicate project, and must be taken seriously, after all, you are messing around the optics of your scope, and in reality you might benefit from it while watching the Moon & brightest Planets, but doubt anything else would show any "serious" difference... (please correct me if I'm wrong, optical gurus!) wink
