Starsplitter prices

It seems to me like Starsplitter scopes are
cheaper than the other well-known premium dobs
(obsession, starmaster)- AND they come with Zambuto
optics. Yet, I rarely see Starsplitter mentioned on
this forum anymore. Is there a reason for this?

just curious,
bill

I own a Starplitter that I bought used from a local member. I did a lot of research and although it is from what is considered a "premium" builder with options for various premium mirrors, there is little said about them on any discussion board. For a while there was a Yahoo group dedicated to Starsplitters, but I think it died to to a lack of activity

I have no sense of how many have been built and shipped, but the web references are few. I certainly like mine and have had no trouble tracking with one thumb and forefinger at 450x on nights of good seeing.

I've seen Starsplitters and I think they are wonderful scopes. However, last year I they would not return my calls/emails. Contrast that with Rick Singmaster who personally answered the phone and spent an hour with me on the first call. I've said since there are two reasons to get a Starmaster: 1) Zambuto Optics and 2) Rick Singmaster.

That said, with a Starsplitter you get 1) above. If my experience was an anomaly then I am quite certain you would be delighted with their product.
