Need advise on a 102 on a mount for planets and lunar viewing, no photography required.

How about a used Vixen Fluorite (1st choice,
$1400) / Tak FS-102 / TeleVue 102 on a used
CG-5 mount ($300)? If possible, try the OTA
before you buy. If you need eyepieces, get
a couple University Optics Orthos (12, 18, 25mm;
$55 each new) and maybe a TeleVue 3x Barlow
($80 used).

Hi Georges,

I have two Vixen refractors,a 102EDSS on a GP and VX102FL on an ORION SVP. They both were purchased used except for the SVP mount and they were both under $2000 complete. I can't say enough to express how much I enjoy both of them. From my own personal experience I would suggest that you hold out for an apochromat. If it's a refractor that you want they are worth the money, IMO.

Clear Skies,

Steve
