Can anyone recommend a technique to patch extraneous screw holes in a sonotube dob? I'm kicking around mixing wood or sonotube dust with wood glue and filling. Maybe epoxy? Then want to paint over. Any wisdom appredciated.

Hi Matthew,

Automotive "Bondo" is easy to apply and spot sand and blend. Spray a little primer and paint.....

It depends on the color of the DOB and how particular you might be about the looks. I have several other scopes that I worry about but I am not particular about the Sonotube DOB. Personally I keep my sonotube DOB covered when not in use and for some reason the nicks and screw holes don't bother me at night, looks pretty good.. :-)

My Sonotube DOB happens to be white. When I want to fill the holes patch places where the telrad peeled the top layer, I use my wife's Acrylic Gesso. It seems to fill quite nicely and doesn't look too bad. Somewhere in the back of my mind though I am always thinking, "One day I have my buddy build that aluminum tube and this thing will look really sharp....."

Matthew, if it were me I would just mix up some fine sawdust with Titebond II (waterproof) carpenter's wood glue. Cheap, and would bond with the Sonotube fiber very well.
