I just purchased a Dx 2 from JMI. It is a very nice focuser but still doesn't have the silky smooth focus I was hoping for. Is thier any way to make it silky smooth? The heaviest thing I use is a 32mm widescan eyepiece which seems to weigh about a pound or so I don't need too much friction. Should I have just dished out the dough and gone for the DX 1 with dual rate? thanks for the help.

The "secret" to smooth with a Crayford is not necessarily dual-speed, but smoothness of the drawtube. Moonlite Telescope Accessories, just for example, describes their manufacturing process specifically intended to improve focus smoothness:
"The flat on the draw tube is hand polished perfectly smooth which is why our focusers are so smooth-- NO machine marks are left on the draw tubes' machined flat surface. This allows very small focus adjustments to be made without any sticky or notchy feel to the user."
I have used several JMIs, a couple Moonlites, and a Feathertouch. The Moonlites and the Feathertouch were miles ahead of the JMI for focus smoothness, and that includes Moonlite's competitively priced single speed unit which costs (only) $165.
