I just recieved my 80mmED and have mounted it on the Lx200 8". I have the slide bar balance system from Meade. This does not seem to do the trick. It will balance in a horizontal position but move it either way 30 degrees and it becomes heavy on that side. Suggestions?

Edward, I do not currently have the 80ED, but I have an ST-80 mounted on top of my 10" LX-200GPS...

IS your scope Nose Heavy or Back Heavy?

I have Scopestuff's rails & weights on my scope to help on the balancing issue...

The ST-80 is mounted on (2) 3-point rings, and these are mounted on a rail, so that I can slide the scope until I find the balance point.

I'm not sure if you are using your scope on a wedge (equatorial setup) or Alt-Az..., I'm personally using mine Alt-Az, which simplifies the balancing issue.

As a note, I have the Meade Aluminum Dew Shield (makes scope NOSE HEAVY) and I use the Microfocuser/ 2" TV Diagonal + 2" eyepieces (to help balance the back side).

If I level my scope, and release the clutch, the scope stays perfectly put...

You "could" need more weights on your balance system to compensate...

I hope some of these ideas help you...
