FS 78 and CG5

I have a Vixen GP-DX and want to mount an FS78 to it. The FS 78 comes with the clam shell. Can this be easily mounted to a CG5 dovetail giving a stable setup? If not, I have a set of rings that came with the my Stellarvue A1010. Is it possible to use these rings to mount the FS 78? Or, should I invest in a set of Parallax rings and be done with it?

Mike,

IIRC the Vixen dovetail plate has two recessed circles on the underneath of the plate. These can be drilled and tapped to fit a Takahashi Ring perfectly. Just turn the plate over, find the recesses and tap for the same size/thread screw that comes with the Tak ring. It should take all of 15 minutes to complete assuming you have the drill, bits and tap.

At least that is the way I've seen it done.

Best wishes,

Randy

I used a FS-78 on my CG-5 mount is was a perfect match! I drilled and tapped the dovetail to work with the Tak tube holder.

Thanks everyone for the informative replies. I can use the Vixen dovetail with that Tak afterall. Just need to drill and tap the treads and I will be set. This is a great forum.
