Hi all,

I need some advice on the subject above. It seems as if there are three 45* CI diagonals that are of possible high quality...Vixen, TV and Williams Optical.

I hope to purchase an Orion 80ED on the new one offered by Celestron. The diagonal will be used for bird watching and digital photography. I know that the WO is probably the best, but it is also the most expensive (because it is a work of art?) Which one would you recommend?

Thanks in advance........

I can't say....

But I do a lot of bird watching and digital photography with a standard mirror diagonal and I have no problems, the images are erect and only reversed left to right.

I think the image degredation caused by the optics necessary to flip the image around in a 45 degree CI diagonal is not a good thing.

I also think for general purpose birding the ED-100 is quite large and requires too much mount to be stable but it is probably good if you already have a decent birding scope. I find most of taking bird pictures is being quick and accurate.

Sorry thats all I can add... Except for this photo of a Stellar's Jay I took with my Pronto and a Coolpix 4500 at about 15 feet. Sorry about this too but I just couldn't resist.
