Inter Pupil distance

Hey Gang
Anyone ever have a problem with the inter pupil distance on their binoviewer? I have a Denkmeier Standard I just bought off astromart that saw first light today viewing the sun in white light with my C-102. I used a pair of 30mm Ultima's and was just able to get the images to converge after adjusting the inter pupil distance as close together as possible. I removed the OCS and just used the S-piece with increased magnification I couldn't get the image to converge :C I tried a pair of 19mm GRO SWA's which would not converge at all and a pair of 12.5mm Ultima's that had the same problem.
I never thought my eyes were that close together until I checked out my binoculars and noticed that they are adjusted almost all the way in :S
Are there any pairs of eyepieces that will help me with this problem? I really love the binoviewer and after just a few seconds of viewing with the 30mm Ultima's I'm hooked smile
I just hate the thought of not being able to use higher magnification with the binoviewer.

Larry,

Make sure the eyepeices are seated properly in the holders. Higher powered views are harder to merge.

Is this your first pair of binoviewers, you may need to practice with them for a while.

It could also be that your binoviewers were knocked slightly out of alignment during shipping.

You can check your inter pupil distance with a ruler and a mirror. Just try to look straight ahead with the ruler just under your pupils and measure the distance between them.

If your find that the result in the mirror does not match the result on the binoviewer, you may need to send your unit to the manufacturer for alignment.

Try merging images in the daytime. Your fields of view should completely overlap. If they are are not two identical images then you have significant alignment issues which should be fixed by the manfacturer.
Hope this information helps. Scotty

It really sounds like you have a collimation problem, Larry. I'd give Denkmeier a call - even though you bought them used I'm sure they'll treat you well in adjusting them. Binoviewers really have to be a "put them to your face and enjoy" kind of thing - if you have to strain to merge, set the ipd closer than you would like, not use high power etc. you'll never be happy with them. If in collimation, none of these things will be necessary.
good luck,
Nils
