Due to aperture fever, I am selling my 18" F/4.2 Starmaster Stablite. For those unfamiliar with the Stablite mirror, there were only ten or twelve Starmaster scopes offered with the Stablite mirror. The mirror consisted of two thin (aprox. three quarters of an inch) sheets of glass with vanes of glass between them. The purpose was to reduce weight and to provide a mirror that cooled down within minutes to ambient air temperature. Both objectives were acheived. The downside was it was hard for the optician (Pegasus Optics) to figure. The upcharge for a Stablite ended up being $2000 over the regular price of the mirror. Even though the mirrors functioned well, it became cost prohibitive to produce. This mirror preforms extremely well and I wouldn't part with it if I wasn't interested in more aperture. I've used the scope to observe the Herschel II (cert. # 4 manual). I've observed all 338 of the Arp Peculiar Galaxies. I've observed 99 out of the 100 Hicikson Compact Galaxies. I have the optical specs from Pegasus, if interested. The scope comes with the Sky Tracker Goto system, which includes the Sky Commander digital setting circles. It has a secondary dew heater with wiring harness. It's been upgraded with a Feathertouch focuser. It has a Cosmic Storm cover (never been used). The scope is three years old and has been used alot, but is in excellent shape. A mew 18" scope from Starmaster is now taking aprox. 9 months to get and retails for $8520. This doesn't include the $2000 upchare for the Stablite mirror. You can have this classic scope with a no longer available rare Stablite mirror today for $8000. I wont ship this scope, but will deliver or meet you anywhere within 400 miles of Kansas City. For the physical dimensions, you can log on to the Starmaster website. The current 18" measurements are the same as my 18" scope. I will be glad to answer any further questions you may have.
Thanks and keep looking up,
