For Sale: EDMUND ASTROSCAN - UGLY BUT WORKS

Edmund Astroscan telescope with base and front cap (cracked but works), no EPs but it does have the drawtube and a cap for it. Frankly this scope is ugly, overall scuffing of the outer surface and schmutz on the back side of the front glass (corrector?). Primary mirror is a bit dusty but looks OK. Foil tag inside says this is an "Astroscan 2001". Hard to make out the part number also on the tag, maybe 217654?

Despite all that this scope does throw an excellent wide field view. I tested this on Orion/M42 with a few different EPs', not surprisingly an RKE 28mm gave the best view, some Plossls did fine, others had edge trouble.

I would normally do the front glass cleaning myself but there is a massive metal snap ring holding the front glass which will be tricky to get out. It's pretty strong, right on the glass and there are no small holes for a spanner that apparently some had so as the scope gave an excellent image as it is I have chosen to leave it alone. If you can get the front glass out the view would be even better I would think.

I'm not into small scopes or wide field viewing so while this has been an interesting experience and I now have a better understanding of the enthusiasm for the Astroscan I'll be moving this on.

$75, PayPal preferred but not required, no fee. Buyer pays shipping for the 24x12x12 box weighing about 13lbs from Chico, CA, 95926. Go to the FedEx website and check shipping costs for FedEx Ground. Trades entertained...what you got?
