This is an exceptional and unique 12.5" f/5 (Albert Highe design) Dob crafted by Michelle Stone of Plettstone telescopes. Photos just don't do justice to this scope's appearance. The RF Royce conical mirror is outstanding and this telescope delivers some wonderful views under dark skies. The conical primary provides quick cool down and the optical figure is exceptional as are all Royce optics. The telescope also features a Feathertouch focuser and Protostar secondary mount with 2.6" diagonal. Collimation is also very easy. I use a Howie Glatter laser with Holographic grid pattern (I'll throw the laser in too) and typically collimate the scope in a few minutes. Any additional finer tweaking is easily accomplished with minor tweaking using any bright star. It's really a snap. I have had this telescope set up side by side next to a 12.5' f/5 Portaball and the views were indistinguishable. I originally took delivery of a 12.5" f/4.2 version of this scope from Plettstone Telescopes but later decided that it was too short for my tastes and so converted the scope to a longer f/5 system using an R.F. Royce conical primary. I had new Al truss poles cut to the correct length and powder coated them with a resilient black wrinkle finish. This is a unique touch, looks great, and you won't find this feature on traditional Plettstone scopes. What you can't see in the images is how I have also weighted the back end of each of the 3 truss poles Lead rod bar stock. In addition, there is a also a sliding counterweight designed by Michelle Stone which slides alone one of the truss poles for fine balance adjustment (see 2nd photo)! Rear end weighting of the truss poles provides exceptional balancing capability even with the Orion 9x50 erect image finder and Telrad mounted up top... Insert a 31mm type 5, 41mm Panoptic or even a binoviewer in the Feathertouch focuser and the scope still be balanced in any position. That was my original intention with this approach and it has served me very well in the field. The altitude and azimuth movement are also quite smooth. Last but not least, this scope has DSC capability along with Argo Navis computer (included) mounted on a stalk assembly as shown in the photos. Telescope is perfect for both planetary and Deep Sky Objects and provides the ultimate experience in star hopping or DSC ("manual go to") based viewing at this aperture. 2 extra kydex baffles are also included (see last image) as well as an AstroSystems scope coat and vinyl truss pole bag (see photos). Everything discussed in this ad is included so you don’t have to bother asking what's included. Even the Lomo binoviewer is included. It's fanatastic for lunar viewing. This is a fantastic scope for the hard core amateur who "wants it all" in a 12.5" f/5 Dob.
