FOR SALE here you have a used though in very good to excellent condition Meade 10" LX50 Schidt-Cassegrain Telescope, on sale by the owner. Unfortunately, the pursuance of my career & lack of the necessary time and patience involved in the passion of astronomy & exploring the cosmos, I have decided to carefully find the enthusiastic new owner for this scope. (Personally, I must admit I feel quite guilty letting her go, but she & I have discussed it & she is ready to go! ;-))

This LX50 was purchased NEW from a reputable dealer in Baltimore in 1999 for well over $2100 & has remained with me ever since. As far as I know and from what my experiences tell me, this scope is fully functional! As you will notice in the pics, cosmetically it is in excellent condition, as it should be in the hands of a coordinated perfectionist: no serious scratches or “knicks” on the entire surface other than a few light, ordinary scuffs indicating light though normal use. Naturally, the equatorial wedge has a couple minor blemishes from mounting the scope, especially at the top bolt opening where its often hard to line up if one person is mounting the OTA onto the tripod. Overall, this LX50 was used no more than 2 dozen times, perhaps a bit less. Its optics are all intact & superb! After each viewing I would complete a careful process of preparing the scope for storage, which would always involve allowing each individual component - telescope, tripod, and all accessories - to adjust to the indoor storage temperature. Then, I would thoroughly and gently wipe down every exterior surface, nook & crannies included, of every piece in order to clear off any residual condensation and/or dust that may have remained before packing away in its original foam and box.

All Standard LX50 Features:
> 2500mm/f10 optics with EMC super multi-coatings [same tube assembly as the classic LX200 models]
> Meade Multi-Coated 1.25” MA25mm eyepiece w/Meade right diaganol
> 8x50mm viewfinder with large crosshairs and threaded nylon screws
> Multi-function control panel [ports for auxilary, control handbox, autoguiders, encoders, and 12V supply]; handbox controller capable of slewing speeds, in both axis, of 2x, 8x, 16x, and 32x
> Strong variable-height Meade field tripod w/equatorial wedge
> Meade aluminum cap with felt-material lip
> 25’ 12V battery/cigarette lighter adapter
> All original shipment containers, cardboard boxes, & protective foam in very good condition

Upgrades & Modifications (included):
> “Declination Gear Ratio Optimization Kit” by ScopeTronix, [full manual, original envelope packaging w/original gears & instructions included]
> 15” black composite plastic/vinyl? non-reflective dew shield w/wrap-around velcro (seen in pictures)
> Heavy duty, threaded rear glass “Skylight filter” [for protection from dust & foreign matter entry into scope]
> Black metal photographic “Piggyback” adapter with 1/4” threaded bolt, mounted and ready to go

If you have any further questions regarding this telescope, please do not hesitate to call me at 410.667.6969. Ideally, pick-up of this scope, locally, would be the best solutions for both parties as shipping can be costly, although given conveniences these days it's probably not so bad. I am willing to deliver to a certain destination (i have a small truck) as long as it is within a reasonable range of driving (will discuss this upon sale). As I initially said, selling this scope is a must as I hate having it around uselss, plus it makes me feel more and more guilty that i'm not out there with it, even in these light-polluted skies! ;-) I believe this is a good buy and am hoping to sell it to someone who will put it to good use! Contact me with any questions.

Thank you!
