This is very likely the best available hilltop in New Mexico's famed Southern Sacramento Mountains for a private observatory. 6.9 acres, nearly 9200' altitude by GPS, hilltop with commanding views, surrounded by Lincoln National Forrest. Several lovely neighboring homes and Ash Dome observatory, but profound privacy and dark sky. Lat. +32 d 75.192 min, long. 105 d 46.280 min. While living at nearby National Solar Observatory, my wife and I spent some two years in the looking before buying this summit as a dream observatory site -- but now a new job forces a move, and we're relocating to Magdalena. Access to site is by Sunspot Scenic Highway 6563 and Russia Canyon Road. Location is in the former High Nogal ranch. Good access road is cut in to the top; electricity and community water system already to edge of property; water rights permanently associated with lot. Extensive building sites at top; views of snow-capped 12000-foot Sierra Blanca, some 40 miles to northwest. Expansive views of surrounding forest and deep wooded valleys. Approximately 20 minutes south from Cloudcroft village center. A neighboring home was advertised in S&T circa 1991 at over $600k. Please call after June 6th (traveling for Transit of Venus!). John & Liz, 505-682-2000. Note also: 16-foot ObservaDOME and 10-foot Parablam domes presently on property and possibly available separately.
