I want to buy a new scope, but the wife & bank account say this one has to go first. It's a 5" (actually a hair less ~123mm) f/8 (1000mm fl) air-spaced achromatic refractor OTA homebuilt using mostly commercial parts. Highlights include:
2" JMI NGF DX-3 crayford focuser (with a long 6" drawtube)
adjustable push-pull lens cell
tube rings & dovetail for CG-5 type mounts
Apogee HD German equatorial mount
Orion RA drive (with controller, battery pack & car cord)
lightweight aluminum tripod & homemade wooden leg stabilizer (pretty shaky without the stabilizer, but it's acceptable with it)
2" mirror star diagonal (Apogee)
1.25" 26mm Super Plossl
The tube itself is thick cardboard with black flocking inside & vinyl contact paper outside (ends have been sealed with epoxy).
I've got over $640 invested in all of the parts (plus a fair amount of labor).
I'll let it go for $450 plus shipping. (A local buyer would be my first choice, since it will be pretty costly to ship everything-heavy, and I think it will take 2 or 3 boxes.)
I'm willing to sell mount, diagonal & eyepiece separately, but the OTA needs to sell first.
Thanks for looking, and I'm happy to provide more details/photos upon request.
