Celestron 6" f/8 Achromatic Refractor (C-6R) with 8 x 50 finder and mounting rings/standard dovetail.
Too many scopes and this beautiful scope must go. Gives sharp and bright views on both planets and DSO, with surprisingly little false color (read Ed Ting's review). The optics of this one are very close to 1/6-wave over-corrected, based on extensive testing – thus a O-1 Chromacor will get you as close as possible to the null point. That was my original goal - an affordable large refractor giving APO-quality images - but alas I've gone a different route to accomplish this.
It’s in excellent condition – almost no noticeable scratches, shiny paint finish, clean objective. Has the adjustable objective cell (for collimation). I have upgraded the focuser with a custom-machined compression-style 2” eyepiece/diagonal receiver, made by Joe Cartolano (good for the Chromacor) – costs me $35.
Also available if you want are nice machined 1.5” diameter solid brass focus knobs that can replace the original plastic knobs (cost me $40) – they lower the balance point of the OTA to keep you further off the ground. There are several other upgrade options available for these popular scopes.
$400 seems right for the basic package. Add extra for either of the upgrades (compression eyepiece holder = $25; brass knobs = $30). $455 plus shipping for all. PayPal preferred. Thanks for your interest!
