For sale a portable 6 to 8 inch dob in need of a primary mirror.
Its bigger and older sibbling is discussed in an article I wrote at CloudyNights.
It has a Discovery 1.3 inch secondary only a few months old. Optic is pristine and views are as expected from a Discovery secondary--very nice. Was used briefly with an 8" Parks f6 and a 6" Discovery f8 mirror.
Buyer will need to add a primary mirror (6" f5-f8, 7" f5-f7, or 8" f5-f6) with very little modification to scope required since scope was designed to hold an 8" primary and trusses are adjustable in length.
Primary collimation adjustments are in front rather than behind the mirror--4 wing nuts. Truss poles partially collapse for easier transportation or can be removed for even more compact storage. Both secondary and primary mirror mounts are homemade. Secondary mount is supported by a strong but thin curved support. Focuser is Orion's new 1 1/4" fine focus adapter. Whole scope without a primary or counterweight weighs around 17 pounds. Constructed from high quality oak plywood. Light shroud on upper assembly is heavy felt stapled together--works well and handles dew well.
Also missing a finder. Buyer could mount a Rigel on upper tube ring or a laser pointer on lower assembly (which is what I intended to do).
Parts and materials cost around $200--labor many many hours. I am asking $170 plus shipping. Would rather not ship but... Will meet buyer within 100 miles of Dallas-FtWorth metro area.
I need to sell to help fund a deposit on a longtime desired refractor and pay bills. If does not sell this go around will see about going the donation route.
Thanks for looking.
