No, not the flu bug (heaven help you), the DSLR bug!
If you are thinking of going to digital astrophotography, listen up: the Canon EOS DSLRs are simply dynamite!
I just received a slew of pictures from Rick Meinig using his Canon 10D. I was so impressed that I started up a separate section in our photo Gallery just for the DSLR photos he sent and others that are coming in. Here's what Rick had to say about the Series IV 'Stiletto':
"I just wanted to update you on my use of the Stilleto IV now that I have had it for 2 months....We've had typical winter weather here in Colorado, ie the clear nights mean the jet stream is above..However, I've imaged with a variety of refractors both here in town and up in the mountains....Because I'm getting such bullet proof focusing with the Stiletto IV, I'm stacking upwards of 1hour of exposures in 3 to 5 minute shots with a Canon 10D...Here are some of the recent results....I think the Stiletto is a definite plus particularly when you want to ditch the laptop (almost always....)"
What Rick didn't tell you was that the Series IV 'Stiletto' takes only seconds to focus and is bulletproof. The high resolution ronchi screen in the Series IV does away not only with the laptop and software, but overcomes problems with your own vision too! Instead of reiterating your head off to get a pinpoint image on a monitor, you can be back inside already processing a few dozen images focused with the Series IV. With freezing temperatures around these days, snapping what you want quickly and getting inside to get warm again is a real factor.
And even if you haven't been bitten by the DSLR bug yet, there is a Series IV 'Stiletto' focuser for your manual SLR, CCD, or even Medium Format camera. Each is guaranteed to put you in pinpoint focus in seconds.
