For Sale: Aries Chromacorr U-1

This is an Aries Chromacorr U-1 for sale. This was designed by Aries to correct false color (purple halo) in any achromatic refractor with an F ratio of at least F/8. It actually brings the blue/violet end of the visual spectrum into focus instead of filtering it out. This Chromacorr U-1 not only eliminates false color, it will also correct any refractor with modest overcorrection 1/4 wave or less (spherical abberration). The result of using this device is the reduction or elimination (depending on objective diameter)of purple fringing on bright objects, and ability to reveal low contrast lunar and planetary features by eliminating the spherical abberration (overcorrection in the case of the U-1) in the objective lens. The unit just screws into any 2" mirror diagnol like an ordinary 48mm filter would. For best results, scope should be well collimated. This unit was bought, and tested twice in two different scopes. The optics were never touched or cleaned in any way. It has been carefully wrapped and stored away in a small box for quite some time now. The reason for sale is that I have no scope that is compatable with the spherical correction capabilities of the unit. I use a Chromacorr O1 in my Celestron CR-150. It works great, as advertised. I bought that unit when they first hit the streets back in fall of 2001. The Chromacorrs were selling for $699.00 US back then. I bought this unit new in the summer of 2002. It is in pristine condition. I am asking $500 for the sale of the unit. Any other reasonable offer will be considered. Free shipping via Fed Ex Express anywhere in the 50 states.
