17.5" Newtonian telescope, designed and built by well known (for awesome mirrors) S.F. Bay area optician Earl Watts. Focal ratio right around 4.5. The optics are excellent, and always a crowd pleaser. The scope has a truss tube design, following truss tube designs of scopes 15 years ago or so (it's estimated age). The lower assy. is wood, and the mirror box is around 21" wide by 24" tall. Aluminum (welded) triangle braces make up the distance from the lower assembly to the upper assembly. Scope has a 2" low profile focuser. No eyepieces are included. Secondary mirror is 3.1". Price includes a telrad. Total estimated weight is 100 pounds. No component weighs more than 35 pounds. Because of the very solid design, this scope collimates in 1 to 3 minutes if I am alone, less than 1 minute if someone else is present.
The mirror has one small chip on the edge, about the size of a small fingernail clipping. This does not affect the image.
Scope is in Brentwood, east of Antioch, Calif. Respond by email, or call 925-240-7556. Due to size and weight, pickup or possible local meeting place is needed.
$2600.00, consider offers. Thanks, Tom.
