I built an 8" f/7 Newtonian for use on my Losmandy GM8 mount for the Mars opposition, but I have found this setup is not quite stable enough for the planetary photography I like to do, so I am selling the scope. It works acceptably for visual on the GM8, but should be great on a G11, CI700, EQ5 or other heavier equatorial mount. I took the attached pictures with this scope on my GM8 using a 5x PowerMate and webcam.
Ideally, I would like to sell it for my cost of parts at $1595, but please make a reasonable offer if you wish. You get 2 months of my hard work and headaches for free. :^)
All of the parts are in absolutely mint condition. The holes in the aluminum tube are in perfect placement as I practiced on a cardboard sonotube first (you can have this too if you wish for free). The components are precisely placed for a minimal 16% obstruction, quarter-inch fully illuminated image at focal plane, and minimum focuser intrusion into tube. I will also provide my design spreadsheet, the quartz secondary interferometry report, and Protostar collimation instructions. I did my best on the paint job but I am not a professional painter; I'll be glad to walk you through disassembly and reassembly if you choose to later get a professional paint job on it. This scope was designed for high-power use, and will thrill you with the views it gives. I have also had superb views of the M13 Hercules globular, the M57 ring nebula, and the Andromeda galaxy.
The included components are a spectacular Mike Spooner Pyrex mirror with Beral coating, Feathertouch dual-speed 2-inch focuser + custom radius plate, Protostar quartz secondary with interferometry, Protostar holder and 3-vane spider, Parallax aluminum tube, Meridian tube rings, Orion finder bracket, and University Optics mirror cell.
I would prefer a local sale and am willing to drive a couple of hours to meet somewhere.
