I am selling a custom, CNC machined aluminium heliostat. The system attaches to a standard surveyor's tripod (I can buy you one of these at cost if you need one ... they are reasonably priced)and uses a steering mirror and photoresistor system to guide the beam. The heliostat is friction driven by two motors, with closed loop feedback to keep the sun centered.
The mirror is a 2" thick 6" flat, 1/10 wave, enhanced coated. The flat is 1/10 wave polished on both sides and in theory, you could saw the flat into two.
I have moved up to a 12.5" heliostat of similar design. This 6" drive needs an upgrade to geared motors, as movement is too abrupt now; and the mirror needs balancing for accurate performance. Thus expect to do some twiddling with this heliostat before it performs to its potential.
This would be a great small heliostat for anyone interested in building either a spectrohelioscope or a solar telescope using filters by Daystar or Coronado.
