Massive classic equatorial newtonian in unusually good condition for 1973, rotating rings, three-legged pier with castors, dual-axis drive, handbox, 8x50 finder, helical focuser, counterweight bar assembly, all original. The optical quality is outstanding, with a very fine star test, correction estimated better than 1/10 wave on the wavefront. The small 20% obstruction also helps deliver the superb planetary definition, easily exceeding a known very fine C11 in direct comparision, in good seeing equal to an 8" F 12 D&G refractor with an Aries chromacor color corrector.
I carefully removed and cleaned the primary (I'm a professional), the coatings are spotless and bright, with a Pancro sticker on the back. The edge of the mirror is hand-scribed:
Cave Optical Co.
M-738716 - F6 - 59 1/2" FL
Dec - 17 - 1973
Taking offers or possible trades (APOS, Takahashi, fine Maks, M715, etc.), must see, I won't ship this monster. No photos available. Did not come with any Cave oculars. Will include a photocopy of the Cave catalog of the era. I'm estimating its value at around 1500.
