Celestron Fork, Drive Base with PEC for C8/Fastar 8/Ultima 8
This fork and drive originally comes with a Fastar 8. The fork is similar to the Ultima fork, and is heavier than that of the standard Celestar. The drive has built-in sidereal, solar, lunar and king rates, as well as PEC, and declination motor. It initially had the infamous PEC bug that corrects for 3 1/2 min instead of 5 1/2 min. I have since installed a replacement chip from Celestron. Now it corrects for the proper length of time. PEC seems to work, though I have not tested it vigorously. The drive can be powered by two 9-volt batteries, but it drains battery quickly and changing battery is a real pain. It is better to use the included 12-volt battery adapter.
The Deluxe Hand Controller has bells and whistles like red light, timer, Greenwich Time, and thermometer, but it is too easy to turn on accidentally, and it drains battery quickly. I mostly just use the controller buttons which work without battery.
