This is a new Astro-Tech AT150EDL I bought back in June 2026 for $2,995.00.  The mount I have, a NoHsmount CT-30B, atop a SW 40cm Pier Extension column, had no trouble carrying the 130mm f/7 APO Triplet I had before, so I figured I would give a 150mm f/8 ED Doublet a try.  This scope is only a couple pounds heavier than the 130mm f/7 Triplet, but is a lot longer with its 1,200 mm focal length.  I need to raise the mount a lot higher off the ground, and managing this scope has become too much of a chore now, so I’m reluctantly having to part ways with it. Like all the Astro-Tech EDL series refractors, the objective features a Hoya FCD-100 super-low dispersion element coupled with a CDGM Lanthanum glass mate with a guaranteed minimum Strehl of 0.95.  When I received this scope, it was a little out of collimation and displayed some coma on bright targets, which I attributed to the objective having shifted during shipment from the factory.  Over a couple nights I was able to make minute adjustments to the lateral position of the rear lens element using the four exposed radial centering screws at 90° around the objective cell (see photo), and then to make a final collimation tweak using the three trios of “tilt adjustment” Allen screws at 120° positions around the flange.  After that the scope has performed well up to expectations.  Star tests have continued to show the Poisson Spot smack in the center of concentric diffraction rings at 400x.  Using a Baader T2 BBHS Zeiss-spec Prism Diagonal I bought specifically to use with this scope, I see no residual CA at all.  Last night I was looking at Vega using a 4mm DeLite for 300x, and the star appeared that blue-white color both in focus and out of focus.  The focuser is a 3.2” dual-speed rack-and-pinion that I think is the best Astro-Tech focuser I have used—better even than the larger 3.7” focuser on the AT130EDX I used to have.  There is a section of tube ahead of the focuser than can be removed for binoviewer use.  The focuser is fully rotatable through 360°, and has a separate Camera Angle Adjuster on the end.

The scope comes with a hard case, which along with the original shipping box, is too wide for me to fit in my little car, so I bought a 48.5”-long Orion Padded Carry Bag to store and transport the scope.  It just fits across the back seat, and holds the AT150EDL with diagonal installed.  I prefer to sell the scope semi-locally, where I can drive a reasonable distance with the scope in the Orion Padded Carry Bag for a handoff to the buyer in the SoCal area.  I can then ship the empty hard case in the original outer box.  Other arrangements can be discussed.  Ideally, the buyer can come by and pick up the scope in its hard case in a vehicle with adequate room, and the Orion Padded Carry Bag will be thrown in for free.

$1,900 pickup at my place in the San Diego area, and I’ll throw in the new Padded Carry Bag.
$2,200 delivered to buyer with Padded Carry Bag in the SoCal area.  Hard case shipped separately.
$2,400 shipped outside of SoCal (Scope and Padded Carry Bag) with Hard Case shipped separately.
