REDUCED Astro-Physics 130mm f/8 StarFire EDT Apochromat – September 1992 – ScopeGuard Case

For sale is my Astro-Physics 130mm f/8 StarFire EDT Apochromat, believed to have been manufactured in September 1992. Included with the telescope are the original removable dew shield and a fitted ScopeGuard hard case.

My understanding is that this is one of the early Roland Christen-designed 130mm EDT triplets, well known for outstanding visual performance and excellent optical quality.

Included is correspondence from Astro-Physics indicating that, based on information provided by a previous owner, the telescope was manufactured in September 1992. The correspondence also notes that the telescope was previously returned to Astro-Physics for collimation, cleaning, and installation of a new tube assembly.

The objective was recently cleaned using quality optical cleaning materials (Zeiss) and presents very well. The coatings appear to be in excellent condition. As expected for a telescope of this vintage, a bright inspection light will reveal a few remaining dust specks and minor residual marks that have no impact on optical performance.

The tube has several small paint chips and scratches from normal handling over the past three decades, please see the photos.

The original Astro-Physics focuser functions well and holds accessories securely. There is a slight amount of initial stiction when beginning travel after the telescope has been sitting, after which the motion is smooth. I have not attempted to service or adjust it, preferring to leave it in its original condition for the next owner.

The flocking material inside the removable dew shield has begun to separate. This has not affected the telescope's usability during my ownership, but it should be mentioned. It appears to be a straightforward repair should the next owner wish to address it.
