The Askar APO 103 is one of the highest rated 'entry level' triplet apochromatic refractors on the market today, and for good reason. It out performs almost every similar scope in its aperture and price range.
This package at $1100 is +/- 44% less than if you bought the scope and flatteners at retail..
paired with one of the 3 flatteners/reducers, and you've got even better star performance and color correction for astrophotography.
for me this was 3 scopes in one. With the 1x flattener at f/6.8 and 700mm, you can take respectable photos of tiny DSO's and galaxies. With the 0.8x reducer/flattener, you get the best performance out of the three for a quick and well corrected f/5.4 at 560mm for huge nebulae and other formations. This was by far the one I used the most and the most versatile.
the 0.6x reducer is an interesting piece of kit. The back portion of the tube actually screws off (best done with a strap wrench) shortening the tube to receive the 0.6x reducer. bringing you down to f/4 at a wide 420mm. This was fun to shoot with. I would get crazy detail out of darker structures very quickly. It is, however, the least well performing as far as star shape and color is concerned, but it's still respectable and noting that can't be dealt with in post.
this whole kit is in near new/almost mint condition. The only blemishes are wear and tear on the vixen dovetail from mounting. There are also very small sharpie marks on the dovetail that I marked for balance purposes. Other than that, it is pristine and double boxed in its robust soft/hard case ready to ship out.
It will be shipped in two separate boxes. One with the scope, another with the three flatteners. Both Via USPS Priority Mail. Tracking #'s will be provided for both at purchase.
