I am looking for a new home for my 10" carbon fiber Newtonian astrograph. This is essentially a TS-Optics Photon 10" f/4 Advanced Newtonian Gen.2, manufactured by GSO — a model that is rarely available in the U.S. The telescope is exactly one year old.
The stock focuser has been upgraded to a heavy-duty 3.2" rack-and-pinion focuser, which easily supports a full-frame imaging train. I also had a custom set of reinforced CNC tube rings made specifically for this focuser (very expensive to make), which provide excellent support for the focuser base and greatly improve rigidity. This telescope has an oversized 104 mm secondary mirror, designed to illuminate a full-frame sensor. I have also blackened the interior of the tube to minimize stray light. Attached are my aberration, tilt, and HFR measurements from actual imaging sessions. I assemble and disassemble this telescope on a daily basis, and it holds collimation exceptionally well. In practice, I rarely need to touch the collimation even after several months of regular use.
Reason for selling: Unfortunately, the scope is simply too large and heavy for me and my current mount. Fully equipped with the camera and accessories, it weighs about 45 lbs. My strain-wave mount is not rigid enough to handle it well. I've also injured my back while setting it up, so I've decided it's time to let it go.
Condition: Overall, the telescope is in excellent condition with only minor cosmetic scratches from normal use. There are a few small marks on the secondary that do not affect performance. The primary is pristine. Note that only the OTA + focuser + rings + Dovetail plates are included, cameras, EAF, or other accessories shown in the photos are not included.
I have invested over $2,700 in this setup. I'm asking $1,700, which includes PayPal fees. I will split the shipping within the CONUS will with the buyer.
