This here is a lovely-clean, 2023 Explore Scientific (Jinghua Precision Optics Co of China) 82-degree Series 30mm. It will come with both original dust caps.
This is about as close to a 31mm Tele Vue Nagler as you can get without the $500+ price. Now, those who are well-versed with TV eyepieces will explicitly gesture that a Nagler IS a Nagler and that there is no "close" or "almost like" relative. It is either a Nagler or it is not.
And being a longtime owner, follower, and pursuer of countless TV products, I can side with this attitude, though not with unemotional, black-and-white judgement.
Having held and viewed through both a 31mm Nagler and this 30mm 82 Series, both are works of quality craftsmanship in how they refigure light to your eyes, the sharpenss of their vast field of view, their comfortable eye relief, and how they feel in your grip (this is a heavy eyepiece!). It is just that the Nagler is the original; the template.
And this Explore Scientific take on an ultra-wide ocular is not riddled in compromises and corner-cutting. It feels solid, expensive (they are!), and ready to challenge your demanding tastes at the focuser of your telescope. We especially appreciate the manufacturer using the argon gas-purging process, which will greatly eliminate the threat of fungus/mold to ever form in the internal elements.
My favorite views with the 82 Series 30mm?
* M31 with the Pronto
* M17 in the FS-152SV
* NGC 7331 and SQ region with a DS-10A
* Double Cluster with the NP-127
* IC 405 region in the ES 152CF
This eyepiece is 2 pounds 3 ounces, so make sure your focuser and your mount are ready for it.
Cosmetics on ALL of this eyepiece and its dust caps are mint. No dings, scratches, abrasions, sunlight fading, or caked dust. No wear in the rubber grip. The retractible eye guard is supple and free of cracks or drying. Optics are phenomenal clean and free of dust. Never ever cleaned and no need to for years and years given you are using and storing this beauty with care.
Happy to ship to anyone on the planet.
