For Sale: Meade 12" LX200GPS - SMT w/UHTC with $1,775 worth of included essential extras

***NEW INFORMATION AS OF 08/19/2006***
Meade has informed me that the extended warranty is still available for this scope. You will be able to add this if you like at your option and additional cost. This is the standard Meade Extended warranty and is transferable. More details will be posted if I can contact them on Monday.

I am the original owner of this scope. I am selling this because I have recently upgraded to Astro-Physics AP1200GTO system.

Key Features:
• Recently factory "tuned" at Meade factory. Upgrades were applied
• Polar Mount (Mitty Evolution Wedge) and Alt/Az
• All the extras you'll need to start using it immediately

This is a complete observing system. For this price, I'm including all the Meade LX200GPS-compatible accessories that I've been using -- all the essentials to get you started! I'd like to turn this over to an individual who really wants to get out there and take advantage of what this system has to offer.

Meade calls this scope a "portable observatory". It has several features not found on other similar systems, like manual RA/DEC slow motion controls that allow you to manual move the scope with or without power. The built-in Global Positioning System (GPS) tells the system where you are and sets the clock. The mirror lock does two things - it prevents "mirror flop", the mirror won't shift during slews or long exposures (and the image won't move in the field of view); and second, it allows you to focus using the electronic Zero Image Shift Microfocuser without the primary mirror moving your image.

In AltAz mode, the system will use the integral GPS, electronic compass, and auto-leveling mechanisms to orient itself with the sky. All that is required of you is to roughly level the tripod and help it exactly zero in on two alignment stars.

In Polar mode, the system uses the GPS, but the internal compass and leveling mechanisms are not used by the scope's internal polar initialization.

The SmartMount technology allows you to train the system to compensate for changes due to shifting weight, etc at different parts of the sky and to provide more accurate pointing. (Same idea as to TPoint or MaxPoint, but built into the scope). Smart Drive is Meade's permanent Periodic Error Correction. Programming can be done via the AutoStarII hand controller, or by software. You can also smooth out the PE curve and upload the changed and smoothed corrections to the mount via software.

Latest version of the firmware is installed.

Here's what you'll be getting for one low price!

The Original Scope, which includes:
• Meade LX200GPS 12" with Ultra High Transmission
Coatings (UHTC) with SmartMount and Smart Drive.
(street price $4,000)
o Aperture: 304.8mm
o Focal ratio: f/10
o Focal length at f/10: 3048mm
o Mirror Lock
o Manual RA/DEC slow motion adjuster knobs
o Setting circles
o Heavy duty fork arms
o Meade 8X50 finder scope
o AutoStar II controller with 145,000 objects
o Meade 2" Diagonal
o 2" to 1.25" adapter
o 26mm Meade Plossel eyepiece
o Operations Manual
o 4-speed Zero Image Shift Microfocuser. This is a
nifty device. When used with a camera and the proper
software (like DSLRFocus) the software can
automatically control the focuser by taking and
sampling images. Also, the star doesn't wiggle and
shake while focusing
o Giant field tripod - This is a very sturdy tripod
o Original Meade LX200GPS 12" shipping container and

Mitty Evolution Wedge - Probably the best and most
stable commercial wedge you can buy (VALUE $849)

Flexible Dew Shield (homemade) (VALUE $10)

# 547 A/C adapter with cig. lighter adapter (system
runs on 12VDC) (VALUE MSRP $149)

Serial cables (507) and adapters. This allows you to
use your computer's serial port (or USB using an
adapter) to control almost every aspect of the scope -
even remotely. I've been using StarryNight to change
targets during imaging sessions without getting out of
my chair. I also use the Meade Autostar Suite and LPI/DSI
for guiding, drizzle, and other imaging operations. The
serial port can also be used to customize and upgrade
the AutoStar II object database for firmware upgrades
as well as new comets, planets, satellites, and your
own custom objects. (VALUE MSRP $30)

50 foot 507 adapter extension that will allow you to
control the scope from 50' away. (VALUE $49)

Kenrick #2001 Model VI Standard dew heater Controller
with 4 x 12vdc outputs (VALUE MSRP $107)

Kendrick (2014) 12 inch Heater strap for Meade 12 inch

Meade piggyback camera adapter that provides a 1/4-20 (same as
most camera tripods) mount point for cameras, spotting
scope, etc. (VALUE $60)

Meade Soft Carrying Case for 12 inch LX200gps (MSRP $330)

ScopeStuff 3D Counterweight Balancing system with 3
weights (VALUE $84)

Meade off-axis guider (VALUE $80)

Total value: $5,748.00
