I had this listed a few weeks back along with a 4" Unitron. General consensus was I needed to split the auction into the antique Clark and the vintage Unitron. So here goes.......
4" Clark in excellent condition with most of its original golden lacquer still intact. The uncoated lens is in superb condition as well. It produces very sharp images with high contrast. This is one of the nicest, original condition Alvan Clark 4" OTA you will find outside of a museum.
- Lens serial # 441 - May 1910
- Includes wood transport case
- Finder (missing eyepiece)
- Rare J hook for the dec control rod
- Clark original draw-tube
- Newer 1.25" diagonal
- Vintage brass eyepiece
Payment: Wire transfer will probably work best. Will consider Paypal, if you are willing to their fee or send the money via "Friends and Family" option. Cashier?s check will also work, but those will have a several weeks clearance period, unless from a local bank that is willing to cash it.
Shipping: I much rather this be a face to face transaction given this instrument is irreplaceable. After payment clears, I am willing to drive as much as 5 to 6 hours to north Florida at no additional charge to insure a safe hand-over. If you are beyond driving distance and require shipping, then all arrangements, risks and costs are your responsibility. I can drop off the equipment at a local shipper of your choice or they can come get it at my house. I will not bear any responsibility for the equipment after it leaves my hands and are not able to help pack or crate. Please keep this in mind before bidding.
Back in 2010 a 4" Clark lens in a Gaertner OTA with very nice documentation sold here for $8K. That is just one of a handful data points I have, Clarks don't come up often for sale. After it reaches my reasonable reserve, I will let the market decide what this gorgeous OTA is worth.
If you don't see it in the photos, it is not included. Feel free to drop me a note with any questions you may have.
