This is a 1994 Celestron C90 Deluxe Carry Case and will come with its origial key. BOTH latches are tested to work perfectly with this key. Of the carry cases you could get for your C90, this is the very best one EVER made.
Prior to 1985, these cases would be the high-density polyethylene-plastic crates with the dual, plastic-molded latches. These cases were the ones that replaced the original of all C90 cases, the vinyl-wrapped wood boxes with the single steel latch; the Excxelsior Of Stamford cases. Both the wood boxes and the plastic crates were inclusive to a C90.
However in 1985 until December 1999, the C90, which was now in black gloss and/or rubber armored format, would now arrive in the fancy, lock-capable, black ABS travel case. With Celestron, these cases were only offered as a separate purchasable option. Of course, Orion and other well-reputed dealers of Celestron (Lumicon, Adorama, Focus, sometimes Kits Camera, and Captains Nautical of Seattle) would sell these C90s stock with these cases.
During this time frame, precisely (3) variants would exist:
Single latch, CELESTROn as a vinyl decal on front left
Single latch, CELESTROn as a depressed font on the top lid
Dual latch, CELESTROn as a raised font on the top lid
The case you see here is the rare 2nd gen example that existed sometime between 1993-1995 only. It is the only variant of the (3) to not only have dual latching locks, it has the reinforced, protruding ridges that make it the most robust of the models.
If you were to take out all the foam inserts, the total usable inside space in inches would be:
14.2 L x 10.3 W x 5.75 H
This case will hold ANY C90 Spotter from 1978-1999, but it will not hold the C90 Astro mount.
Weighs exactly 2 pounds 10 ounces
This case is in perfect physical condition. No dents, cracks, or punctures to any portion of the ABS shell. The aluminum seam is true all the way around. The hinges are true as are both latches, which will line-up perfectly to lock/open. The key works to lock the latches as needed. Cosmetics are great as it sits and "excellent" if we want to mention this case is over 3 decades in age. No rust issues to worry about, yet the steel hardware does have some pitting and aging. The ABS skin has a clean, even-black color throughout, but a few minor stains, which can be removed (fun afternoon activity for ya).
The inside foam is complete and unaltered. It is in great condition with stains, but no other issues. It is NOT breaking apart.
Happy to ship to anyone anywhere.
