Starfest is Canada's largest annual observing convention and star party. It attracts over nine hundred astronomy enthusiasts from Ontario, and neighboring provinces and states. It has been ranked among the top star parties in North America, and among the top ten star parties in the world.
Starfest offers a wide variety of observing-oriented activities that address the needs and interests of experienced observers and astrophotographers, as well as those of people new to the hobby. Activities include observing sessions, formal and informal slide presentations, workshops, commercial exhibits, and a children's program. You are invited to bring your telescope, astronomical images, and share your observing experiences with others.

<dc:subject>Star Party</dc:subject>

Cherry Springs Star Party

The Cherry Springs Star Party or CSSP will be held at Cherry Springs State Park near Coudersport, PA. There will be two observing areas, a traditional campground for attendees who want to set up a permanent site, and a large, paved parking lot nearby for those who prefer less formal, or temporary set ups. Both are at an elevation of 5800 feet (1770 m) and feature dark, transparent skies with a visual limiting magnitude typically better than 6. The sites are accessible by most vehicles including large motor homes, and in addition to the excellent observing conditions, we will also sponsor a pot luck supper on Saturday and a door prize raffle. The suggested donation is only $20 per person. For more information and a registration form, please see our web site. We place a special emphasis on amateur telescope making, by recognizing outstanding achievement through our ATM Telescope and Accessory Awards. In addition to all night observing; Prairie Skies features an imaging contest, door prizes, a swap market, vendors, catered meals, and a guest speaker or two. There are several additional activities to attend or participate in. Visit the Prairie Dog Stand and enjoy a tasty prairie dog; and don’t miss out on the famous Midnight Chili! As always; complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate will be available in the Dining Hall all day and night throughout the event. Our popular Almost All Night Movie Festival will feature sci-fi movies in the Dining Hall. Join us as Prairie Skies Star Party "continues the tradition" at Camp Shaw.

The pre-registration deadline is 8-23-08 (prices higher after deadline).

Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See provides a semi secluded location, well protected from the glare of off-site lighting. The 6 acre main observing field is large and grass covered, making it ideal for observing and camping. Rustic barrack style cabins are available for non-campers. The large Dining Hall serves as a gathering place for many of the scheduled activities. Enjoy walking through the woods on shady hiking trails; one of which, follows Rock Creek as it traverses the camp property through a small canyon. Nearby Kankakee River State Park has an extensive bike trail system, and offers many other recreational opportunities.
