NGC 4755 - Like Opening up a Colorful Cosmic Jewel Box Posted by Guy Pirro on 11/6/2009 6:29 PM Star clusters are among the most visually alluring and astrophysically fascinating objects in the sky. One of the most spectacular nestles deep in the southern skies near the Southern Cross in the constellation of Crux. Known as NGC 4755, the “Jewel Box” is just bright enough to be seen with the unaided eye. However, when recently imaged through three exceptional telescopes: the ESO Very Large Telescope on Cerro Paranal , the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at La Silla observatory, and the Hubble Space Telescope, the stunning Jewel Box star cluster is revealed in a whole new light. | Read full story |
