Well, I hate to do it, but I am selling my very first scope. With a 17.5-inch truss tube dob, an 8-inch dob, and an 8-inch SCT astrophotography setup surrounding it, I am afraid that this trusty old faithful just doesn't get the use that it used to get.
It is a Meade 114EQ-DH4 which means it is a 4.5-inch Newtonian reflector mounted on an Equatorial mount. It comes with the Meade Autostar computerized GoTo and tracking system and dual axis drives with 8 speeds. It has a 6x26 Orion finder added to it, because the plastic lensed garbage that came with it was useless even in broad daylight. It also has a homemade reflex sight that works like a red dot finder. I will include the original focuser tube top which accepts .965-inch eyepieces, but I will also include the PVC adapter I made so that it can use 1.25-inch eyepieces.
I will also include a homemade dobsonian style alt-az mount that uses the rings from the EQ Mount. It is easier for grab and go take a look sessions. This scope is one year old and optically is better than new. Let's not even talk about the plastic eyepieces that come with this kind of scope. The focuser modification was absolutely necessary. I will include a 1.25 ep to get you started. I will collimate it before I send it, and the manual explains how to touch up any shift during shipping. I will also send you my laminated "cheat sheet" which helps you remember the names of the bright stars when you are trying to align the GOTO system. My kids had a blast with this one until they "stole" my 8-inch dob. I guess even kids get aperture fever. ;-)
For those of you just looking for a deal and who also own an LXD-300 mount, the Autostar system fits the LXD-300 mount and gives it 8-speed dual axis motors. I have been using it with the 8-inch C8 SCT on an LSD-300 mount that I am selling seperately. Just a thought.
