Yes you really can acquire a fine 1967 Cave classic transportable 10" f/7 scope for just $975. I have had it posted for a few weeks and there's been some interest, but no one willing to drive to central Texas to pick it up - must be the economy!
Please note this is a repost. For anyone who emailed me before and I said a sale was pending, the buyer dissappeared. I have lowered the price. Several folks emailed interested in buying only the original Cave mount. I would be willing to sell the mount if I sell the OTA first. It is offered for $900. The mirror should be worth that much. I might be willing to ship the OTA to someone willing to pay ALL shipping costs. Can take PayPal - will split transaction fees. Thanks!
If you are reading this you probably know about the quality of Cave telescopes from the 1960's. Original Parks fiberglass tube, marked and dated mirror (unsigned), rotating rings and Unitron finder. A previous owner replaced the original focuser with a short crayford type (new hole drilled). Optics were recoated 2 years ago by L&L Optical (92% enhanced aluminum) and are of very high quality. Secondary is 2.0" (20% central obstruction) and coated with 96% "extra enhanced" aluminum. On steady nights (which are admittedly rare around here), very good images are had with a 2.5mm Nagler (at 700x). Comes with original transportable (roll around) mount with 1.5" shafts and dual axis drives, which I believe to be complete except I don't recall having a hand controller, and the counter weight is frozen to the shaft and will probably need to be removed by a machine shop (should be a good mount but needs some restoration). I will add in the Celestron CI-700 mount seen in the picture with two sets of legs (short for this scope and original long legs for an SCT or refractor) and (3) 20-lb. counterweights for an additional $700 ($1675 for everything). Or I will sell the OTA/mount combo as shown in the photo for $1600. This is a fine OTA/mount combination. I'm just getting too old and lazy to set this one up in the yard everytime I want to observe. Please email me if you are interested. I can send more pictures if needed. Thanks! Ted
