From University Optics:
Weary of paying high prices for designer wide-field eyepieces? Confused by the endless parade of so-called “new” eyepiece designs? Well, welcome to the fold of a large and loyal worldwide following of the original Konigs, truly the “king” of high performance wide-angle eyepieces.
Over 40 years of improvement and refinement have pushed this design to the pinnacle of perfection. These new Konigs incorporate the latest in high refractive index glass and full multicoatings. Konig users constantly report seeing fainter stars than with more expensive competitive oculars.
Many still ask us to explain these remarkable results. The Konig is truly a unique design that originated in Germany. It yields a beautiful wide field combined with razor sharp definition. The 12mm, 16mm and 32mm employ a 4 lens system in a (1)-(2)-(1) lens grouping. The 24mm uses an extra field corrector lens to help edge definition on faster telescope systems.
The fields of view range from 60 degrees on the 12mm. and 24mm. to a breathtaking 68 degrees on the 16mm. The 1-1/4” format limits the 32mm to about 52 degrees. In 1998, we increased the field lens to more than 34mm, making it the largest and most impressive 32mm 1-1/4” oculars in the world today.
The University Konig offers all the advancements pioneered by us over the years including full multi-coating, high-index glass, and filter threading. In fact, we coined the term “porthole view of space” over 25 years ago.
We urge you to join our long and distinguished list of professional astronomers who tell us that their Konigs are their most used and valued eyepieces.
