I have a Russian-made Klevtsov-Cassegrain OTA for sale. This
is an 8" f/9 catadioptric with all spherical surfaces, 1 1/4"
focuser, and with the corrector in front of the *secondary*
mirror. Contrast is not as good as your typical new SCT,
but sharpness is MUCH better, for those who like to bring
things to a sharper focus. Check it out at telescopes.ru on the
web, for a "commercial" introduction. There are also two reviews
at CloudyNights, one of which, in my opinion, is unjustifiably
poor (the tester having "adjusted" the system before using it),
and the other which is perhaps slightly optimistic. ;-)
My scope is less than three years old, has one minor cosmetic
blem that came that way from the factory, and has the full
standard OTA-only package, with the following included:
TAL200K Klevtsov f/9 curved vane OTA
8x50 Finder scope (nice)
26mm and 10mm Plossl eyepieces
Neutral density filter
1 1/4" camera adapter
Manual (such as it is ;-)
Wooden Case for all
In addition to the standard package, I am also
Six 1-1/4" color filters
Plastic cases for eyepices and Barlow
I do like it a lot, but am selling it to finance a
larger Newtonian, and to recover some needed storage
space. I am asking $700 U.S. including shipping, and
would very much prefer a buyer in the continental U.S.
E-mail me for a phone number and more pics, or to make
BTW, if you would rather build your own, ITE Astronomy
was offering the optics *only* (no tube, focuser,
eyepieces, case, filter, or anything) for $600!
If you are interested in a complete manual system, for
$250 additional, I will include a Universal Astronomics
Unistar alt-azimuth mount on a (admittedly in need of
paint, but sturdy) surveyor tripod, with soft (orange
canvas) case for the tripod. This is a $400 value.
BTW, Encinitas is in the San Diego area.
Thanks for perusing,
