The new 35mm DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sigma and others are simply great for astrophotography... if you can focus them properly! I'm not quite sure what 'squat' is, but I know you can't get it in focus without a Series IV 'Stiletto'.

Take a look at the pictures from Rick Meinig using his Canon 10D and his 'Stiletto'. I was so impressed that I started up a separate section in our photo Gallery just for the DSLR photos he and others sent. Here's what Rick had to say:

"I just wanted to update you on my use of the Stilleto IV now that I have had it for 2 months....We've had typical winter weather here in Colorado, ie the clear nights mean the jet stream is above..However. I've imaged with a variety of refractors both here in town and up in the mountains....Because I'm getting such bullet proof focusing with the Stiletto IV, I 'm stacking upwards of 1 hour of exposures in 3 to 5 minute shots with a Canon 10D...Here are some of the recent results....I think the Stiletto is a definite plus particularly when you want to ditch the laptop (almost always....) "

What Rick didn't tell you was that the Series IV 'Stiletto' takes only seconds to focus and is bulletproof. The high resolution ronchi screen in the Series IV does away not only with the laptop and software, but overcomes problems with your own vision too - even at low f/ratios. Instead of reiterating your head off to get a pinpoint image on the monitor or that under-pixeled viewscreen, you could already be inside processing a few dozen images focused with the Series IV. With bugs crawling on your neck these summer nights, snapping what you want and getting inside quickly is a real plus.

And even if you haven't been bitten by critters or the DSLR bug yet, there are Series IV 'Stiletto' focusers for all manual SLR, CCD, and even Medium Format cameras too! Each is guaranteed to put squat in pinpoint focus in only seconds.

Clear Skies!
Richard
